Denise Nyakeru, First Lady of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has urged Congolese citizens to pray for her husband, President Félix Tshisekedi, as he navigates multiple battles facing the nation.

Speaking on March 8, 2026, during International Women’s Day celebrations at the UDPS party headquarters in Kinshasa, Nyakeru described her husband’s struggles as both “physical and spiritual battles” and emphasized the importance of prayer for strength and guidance.

“The battles he faces are significant, and our prayers are a source of support and protection. Let us continue to pray for him and for the nation,” she said.

The DRC is grappling with economic difficulties, social issues, and security concerns, particularly in the eastern provinces. Rebel group AFC/M23 currently controls large areas of North and South Kivu, and President Tshisekedi has been working to restore state authority through a mix of military and diplomatic efforts.

AFC/M23 has warned it will not withdraw from the territories it controls until the grievances that triggered its uprising, including attacks on Kinyarwanda-speaking communities are addressed, adding that it will respond to any military aggression.
