Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on his appointment as Iran’s new Supreme Leader and reaffirmed Moscow’s continued support for Tehran.
In a congratulatory message published on the Kremlin’s website, Putin expressed his best wishes to Iran’s new leader.
“Please accept my sincere congratulations on your election as the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the Russian president said.
Putin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Iran, emphasizing Moscow’s readiness to stand by what he described as a close and trusted partner.
Speaking about the current situation facing Iran, Putin acknowledged that the country is going through a difficult period marked by security tensions.

“At a time when Iran is facing provocative attacks, your responsibilities in this high office will undoubtedly require courage and strong dedication,” he said.
The Russian leader also expressed confidence that Mojtaba Khamenei would continue the legacy of his father while preserving unity among the Iranian people during a challenging moment.
Russia is considered one of Iran’s key international allies. Only weeks before Iran came under attack from the United States and Israel, the two countries had conducted joint naval exercises, highlighting their growing military cooperation.
