Rwanda’s State Minister for Education, Claudette Irere, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to advancing skills development by strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to create more job opportunities for young people.

She made the remarks on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, during the launch of new programs in airport operations management, aviation services, and logistics at IPRC Kigali.

The newly introduced courses aim to equip students with practical skills in airport management, air transport services, cargo handling, and supply chain management, preparing them for employment in rapidly growing sectors.

Minister Irere emphasized that investing in such programs is key to empowering youth and building a sustainable future. She noted that as industries like aviation, logistics, and tourism continue to expand, it is essential to ensure that young people are ready to seize emerging opportunities.

The programs were developed in partnership with the World Bank Group under the Priority Skills for Growth and Youth Empowerment Project, aligning education with labor market needs.

Speaking at the event, Meskerem Mulatu highlighted that Rwanda’s development depends on a skilled workforce, stressing that investing in relevant education is also an investment in job creation and economic growth.

The CEO of Akagera Aviation, Patrick Nkulikiyimfura, welcomed the initiative, noting that the aviation sector requires highly skilled professionals with both technical expertise and customer service skills.

The launch also featured the introduction of advanced training facilities, including an Airport Simulator Workshop and a Smart Classroom both the first of their kind in Rwanda. These facilities allow students to gain hands-on experience in real-life airport operations and passenger handling.

Deputy Vice Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnic, Sylvie Mucyo, said the institution is focused on delivering high-quality, market-driven education that prepares students for real-world jobs.

The initiative comes at a time when Rwanda is heavily investing in key infrastructure, including the new international airport in Bugesera, further increasing demand for skilled professionals in aviation, trade, and tourism sectors.
