French intelligence authorities have arrested Congolese-born artist Gandhi Djuna, widely known as Maître Gims, over allegations including financing criminal groups and money laundering.

The artist was detained on March 25, 2026, upon arrival at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, according to reports from Africa Intelligence.

Sources indicate that the ongoing investigation is linked to suspected financial support for armed or criminal networks, as well as illicit financial activities.

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Maître Gims moved to France at the age of two, where he was raised. Despite several attempts, he has not been granted French citizenship.

The artist has also been a controversial figure due to his political expressions, particularly regarding issues in Central Africa. He previously faced criticism for lyrics perceived as offensive toward Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame.

In addition, he has been accused of spreading rhetoric that incites hatred and violence, especially targeting Tutsi communities. In a documentary produced by Netflix, he made remarks that sparked widespread backlash, with critics arguing they could be interpreted as encouraging violence.

The investigation remains ongoing, and French authorities have yet to release further details regarding the case.
