Members of AVEGA Agahozo gathered in Huye District for discussions aimed at promoting resilience as survivors prepare for the 32nd commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.

The dialogue focused on supporting genocide widows and other survivors who still face challenges in their recovery journey, helping them prepare emotionally for the 100-day mourning period.

Speakers emphasized the importance of sharing experiences and supporting one another in coping with the long-term trauma caused by the genocide.

The coordinator of AVEGA Agahozo members in Huye District, Seraphine Nyiramuruta, said the association has played an important role in helping genocide widows rebuild their lives after the tragedy.

Participants noted that such discussions strengthen them and help them prepare mentally for the commemoration period.

The Governor of Southern Province, Alice Kayitesi, encouraged survivors to continue rebuilding their lives, emphasizing that the country stands with them.

Mental health expert and lecturer at the University of Rwanda, Chaste Uwihoreye, advised people not to hide their emotions when experiencing trauma and encouraged them to seek professional support when necessary.

The discussions are part of broader preparations taking place across Rwanda as the nation prepares to mark the 32nd anniversary of the genocide while continuing to promote resilience and unity.
