President of the United States, Donald Trump, has once again expressed frustration with French President Emmanuel Macron after France declined to support U.S. military operations alongside Israel in a conflict involving Iran.
Speaking during a dinner event on April 1, 2026, Trump criticized several members of NATO, accusing them of failing to provide support for American military actions in the Middle East.
Trump said that despite requesting assistance from allied nations, the United States did not ultimately rely on them. He specifically mentioned France, claiming that he had asked Macron to send a military ship to support the operation but was told that assistance would only be possible after the conflict ended.
Trump argued that such help would have been meaningless if it came after the fighting was over.
His remarks also referenced a viral 2025 video showing Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, which sparked widespread debate on social media at the time.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently indicated that Washington could reconsider aspects of its relationship with NATO allies following the conflict, noting that several member states did not provide support.
Trump’s comments are expected to intensify tensions between the United States and some European allies as the security situation involving Iran continues to escalate.
