A doctor working at the National Blood Transfusion Center (CNTS) in Senegal has been arrested over allegations of engaging in same-sex relations and intentionally transmitting HIV/AIDS.

The 38-year-old doctor was arrested on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Blaise Diagne International Airport, where he was reportedly attempting to leave the country.

According to information published by Radio France Internationale, the suspect is accused of having sexual relations with a television journalist, Pape Cheikh Diallo, who is mentioned in the case linked to alleged immoral activities and the deliberate spread of HIV.

Following the arrest, social media platforms were flooded with messages from concerned citizens questioning the safety of blood stored at the National Blood Transfusion Center.

In response, the blood center issued a statement assuring the public that all donated blood undergoes strict screening before being stored or used.

The statement emphasized that every blood unit collected is carefully tested for diseases, including HIV, to ensure that blood donation remains safe and reliable.
