Semuhungu Eric Faces Up to 15 Years in Prison

The spokesperson of the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), Dr. Murangira B. Thierry, confirmed that the case file of Semuhungu Eric has been submitted to the Prosecution for further legal action.

According to information reported by IGIHE, Semuhungu Eric was arrested on Thursday, April 9, 2026. He is suspected of committing three offenses: forcing someone into sexual intercourse, publishing sexually explicit content using a computer or computer network, and defamation.

The offense of forcing someone into sexual intercourse is provided for under Article 134 of Law No. 68/2018 of August 30, 2018, which determines offenses and penalties in general. A person convicted of this crime faces a prison sentence of not less than 10 years and not more than 15 years, as well as a fine ranging from 1 million to 2 million Rwandan francs.

The offense of publishing sexually explicit content using a computer or computer network is stipulated under Article 34 of the law relating to the prevention and punishment of cybercrimes. Anyone found guilty may face a prison sentence of not less than three years and not more than five years, and a fine ranging from 1 million to 3 million Rwandan francs.

The offense of defamation is provided for under Article 129 of the law determining offenses and penalties in general. If convicted, a person may face a prison sentence of not less than one year and not more than three years, along with a fine ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 Rwandan francs.

Semuhungu Eric, 38, is known in Rwanda’s entertainment industry, particularly for organizing events in high-end bars and nightlife venues.
