Sudanese club Al Hilal Omdurman has warned that it could take its case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) if the Confederation of African Football does not issue a decision before the upcoming match involving RS Berkane.
In a statement released on the evening of April 5, 2026, the club confirmed that it had finally received a response from Confederation of African Football (CAF), informing it that its complaint will be heard on April 9, 2026.
Al Hilal said this response came after it had sent five separate letters regarding the matter between March 23 and April 3 without receiving any reply.
Despite welcoming the move, the Sudanese club expressed concern that it has not been informed of the positions of RS Berkane or the player at the centre of the dispute, Hamza El Moussaoui.
The club argued that participating in a hearing without knowing the stance of the other parties undermines fairness and due process.
Al Hilal therefore demanded that CAF issue a final decision and notify all parties no later than 11:00 a.m. Cairo time on Monday, April 6, 2026. If no decision is made, the club requested that the CAF Champions League semi-final between RS Berkane and AS FAR scheduled for April 11 be suspended.
The club warned that failure to act would force it to file a case with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Al Hilal also criticized the composition of the disciplinary panel set to hear the case, noting that the person expected to oversee the hearing had previously signed a decision on March 14 that lifted a temporary suspension against Hamza El Moussaoui without what the club considers a valid legal basis.
The dispute stems from the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-final played at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on March 22, 2026, where Al Hilal were eliminated after losing 1–0.
The Sudanese side accuses RS Berkane of fielding Moussaoui while he was serving a 30-day suspension related to performance-enhancing substances. The club also complained about refereeing decisions and the use of VAR during the match.
Meanwhile, Al Hilal currently leads the Rwanda Premier League standings with 54 points and is set to face Marine FC on April 6 at Kigali Pelé Stadium.
