American investor Elon Musk has accused South Africa of enforcing what he described as racially discriminatory laws.
Musk made the remarks on his social media platform X on Friday, claiming that South Africa has “extreme racist laws.”
His comments were directed at the proposed Employment Equity Amendment Act, a new bill aimed at increasing representation of historically disadvantaged groups in 18 sectors of the economy between 2025 and 2030.
According to the proposal, between 90% and 96% of employees in certain sectors should come from previously disadvantaged groups, including Black South Africans and women, while about 3% of positions would be reserved for people with disabilities.
The bill also suggests that companies employing more than 5% white workers could face fines amounting to 10% of their total revenue.
Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of South Africa, has expressed support for the proposed legislation.
Musk, who was born in South Africa, has repeatedly criticized the country’s policies, accusing its current leadership of discriminating against white citizens.
