Gasogi United was handed a 3-0 forfeit defeat after failing to show up for their Rwanda Premier League Matchday 25 clash against Rayon Sports at Stade Amahoro on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
Rayon Sports arrived early at the stadium and began warm-ups shortly after a CAF Champions League match between Al Hilal SC and RS Berkane had concluded, with fans already in attendance awaiting the fixture. Match officials, led by center referee Niyeyimana Is’haq alongside assistants Mugabo Eric and Karemera Tony, were also present and ready.
According to Rwanda Premier League regulations, a team that fails to appear within 15 minutes after the scheduled kickoff time automatically forfeits the match. The referee confirms the absence in the official match report, leading to a 3-0 victory for the opposing team.
As a result, Rayon Sports moved up to fourth place with 42 points, climbing from sixth, while Gasogi United dropped to 12th position with 26 points.
In addition to the forfeit, Gasogi United is expected to face a financial penalty of Rwf 2,000,000 as stipulated by league rules.
The situation is reportedly linked to a dispute over changes to the match venue. League regulations state that only the Rwanda Premier League Secretariat has the authority to alter match details such as venue, date, or kickoff time, and such changes must be communicated at least five days in advance, or 48 hours in exceptional cases.
It is alleged that Gasogi United requested compensation of Rwf 2,000,000 to accept the venue change, arguing that the notification did not meet the required timeline.
Club president Kakoza Nkuriza Charles hinted at the disagreement in a social media post, stating: “If you don’t stand up for your rights, someone else will. Protect your word or lose it.”
