Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is reportedly still recovering from injuries sustained during recent strikes carried out by the United States and Israel, which also killed his father, Ali Khamenei.
According to sources close to him cited by Reuters, Mojtaba Khamenei suffered injuries to his face and legs during the attack. These injuries are said to be one of the reasons he has not appeared in public since assuming leadership.
The 56-year-old leader is reportedly in stable condition mentally and is continuing to participate in key national decisions. However, he is said to be holding meetings through audio communication rather than appearing in person or via video.
Since his appointment on March 8, 2026, little official information has been released regarding his health, location, or ability to fully carry out his duties. No photos, videos, or audio recordings of him have been made public.
The attack that injured him occurred on February 28, 2026, at the start of the conflict involving the United States and Israel. It resulted in the death of his father, who had led Iran since 1989.
Reports also indicate that several members of his family, including close relatives, were killed in the same strike.
An unnamed intelligence source in the United States suggested that Mojtaba Khamenei may have suffered severe leg injuries, though no official confirmation has been provided by authorities in either the United States or Israel.
