Kim Jong Un has been officially reconfirmed as President of North Korea by the country’s parliament.

According to state media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the decision was approved during a session of the Supreme People’s Assembly held on March 22, 2026.

This follows his re-election just a month earlier as General Secretary of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea.

The Supreme People’s Assembly functions as North Korea’s legislative body, responsible for passing laws, approving the national budget, and endorsing top leadership positions, including the head of state. Its sessions typically formalize decisions already made by the ruling party.

During the first day of its 15th session, Kim Jong Un was once again endorsed to lead the country, a move reportedly aimed at reflecting the will of the people for continuity in leadership.

Kim Jong Un has been in power since December 2011, following the death of his father, Kim Jong Il. Reports continue to suggest that his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, could eventually succeed him.
