Kim Jong Un has stated that the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran proves why North Korea was right to develop nuclear weapons.
Speaking before the country’s parliament on March 24, 2026, Kim described US actions as aggressive and warned that nations without nuclear weapons risk being targeted or weakened.
He argued that the situation in Iran demonstrates the importance of maintaining a strong nuclear deterrent, insisting that North Korea’s weapons program is irreversible. Kim also criticized past US-led negotiations, calling them deceptive efforts aimed at forcing Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear capabilities.
Experts have similarly noted that the war in Iran is likely reinforcing North Korea’s belief that nuclear weapons are essential for regime survival, as countries without them may be more vulnerable to external military action.
Kim added that any future talks with Washington would depend on the US recognizing North Korea as a legitimate nuclear power, signaling a shift toward tougher conditions for diplomacy.
Meanwhile, Pyongyang is reportedly strengthening its military capabilities and deepening ties with Russia, reflecting growing geopolitical alignment amid rising tensions with the United States.
