Louise Mushikiwabo has condemned a deadly airstrike carried out by Israel in Lebanon that reportedly killed more than 250 people.

On April 8, 2026, the Israeli military announced that it had launched a large-scale and surprise operation in Lebanon, saying the strike targeted bases belonging to Hezbollah.

The attack occurred while Israel and the United States had temporarily paused their military operations against Iran in Tehran, following a request from Pakistan to observe a two-week truce ahead of planned peace negotiations.

Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, said many Hezbollah facilities struck were located within densely populated civilian areas, but insisted that efforts were made to avoid civilian casualties.

However, a Lebanese human rights organization claimed that several of the strikes hit civilian-populated neighborhoods used for commercial activities and housing.

According to the group, at least 254 people were killed in the attacks carried out at more than 100 locations across Lebanon, while 1,165 others were injured.

Lebanon’s Health Minister, Rakan Nasserddine, said the strikes had pushed the country into an emergency situation and called on the international community to assist with the treatment of the wounded.

On April 9, the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) released a statement saying Mushikiwabo strongly condemned the attack, expressed condolences to the families of the victims, and stood in solidarity with the people of Lebanon during the period of mourning.

She also urged all parties to respect international law, welcomed the temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran, and called for intensified diplomatic efforts to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.
