Authorities in have uncovered a mass grave containing 32 bodies, the majority of them children, in a case that has shocked the country and prompted an ongoing investigation into the cause of death.
The exhumation exercise began after a court ordered police to retrieve 14 bodies suspected to have been secretly buried in the area. However, the operation revealed a far larger number than initially expected.
According to officials, the bodies recovered include seven adults and 25 children. A government pathologist confirmed that forensic examinations will be conducted to establish both the identities of the victims and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Preliminary findings from investigators suggest that at least 13 of the deceased had been collected from hospitals in before being transported and buried in Kericho. Reports indicate that the burials may have been carried out without proper authorization.
