The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Antoine Marie Kajangwe, has reassured citizens that petroleum products remain available in Rwanda and that authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent shortages.

Kajangwe made the remarks on Sunday during an interview with Rwanda Broadcasting Agency, discussing government measures to address the impact of rising global fuel prices.

He urged the public not to panic over the increase in fuel prices, emphasizing that the Rwandan government is prepared to manage the situation and ensure continued supply.

“Fuel is available, people should not worry. We will continue working with various institutions and the private sector, and if anything changes we will inform the public,” he said.

Kajangwe explained that the government has already put in place several strategies to mitigate the economic effects of the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, including efforts to secure alternative supply routes for petroleum products.

He noted that despite disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz, Rwanda is still able to access fuel supplies because nearly 70 percent of its imports come from India and the United Arab Emirates, where shipments are still moving.

According to Kajangwe, Rwanda continues to obtain about 80 percent of its fuel needs from the international market, and the government will keep collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure that supplies remain stable.
