More than 250 people have been killed following heavy airstrikes launched by Israel on Lebanon, highlighting the continued escalation of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, despite a ceasefire involving Iran.
The large-scale air raids were carried out on April 8, 2026, with Israeli forces reportedly striking around 100 sites believed to be used by Hezbollah. The operation is said to have lasted just 10 minutes.
The targeted areas included the southern parts of Beirut, southern Lebanon, and eastern regions of the Bekaa Valley.
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, at least 254 people have been killed and 1,165 others injured. The death toll is expected to rise due to the intensity of the strikes.
The attacks came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed claims by Pakistan that Lebanon was included in a two-week ceasefire agreement related to the Iran conflict.
Karoline Leavitt, spokesperson for the White House, also stated that Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire arrangement.
Hezbollah has maintained that it has the right to defend itself.
The group entered the conflict after launching attacks on Israel, saying it was retaliating for the killing of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, who was reportedly killed by Israel on February 28 at the onset of the conflict.
Since then, Israel has intensified its military operations. Lebanese authorities report that more than 1,700 people have been killed in the country so far, including over 139 children.
Israel says it has killed at least 1,100 Hezbollah fighters, while more than 1.2 million people in Lebanon have been displaced by the ongoing violence.
