Netflix is reportedly preparing to acquire InterPositive, a film technology company founded by Ben Affleck, in a deal valued at about $600 million.
Sources familiar with the matter say the purchase would become one of the largest acquisitions ever made by Netflix. The streaming giant is interested in the company mainly because of its advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology designed to assist with film production and editing.
InterPositive has developed tools that allow filmmakers to modify and enhance previously recorded footage, making it easier to adjust scenes without reshooting them. The technology is designed to reduce production costs while improving the quality of visual storytelling.
Renowned film director David Fincher has already tested the system on an upcoming movie starring Brad Pitt.
The potential acquisition reflects a growing trend in Hollywood where major studios are increasingly investing in AI-powered filmmaking tools. Companies such as Amazon and Walt Disney are also exploring the use of AI to streamline production and reduce costs.
Amazon has already created a specialized team dedicated to integrating AI into its film and television projects, while Disney has entered a business partnership with OpenAI to explore similar innovations.
However, the rapid expansion of AI in filmmaking has raised concerns among workers in Hollywood. Many fear that studios could use the technology to replace certain jobs or lower production costs by reducing the need for human labor.
There are also worries that technology companies might use existing creative works to train AI systems without proper permission or compensation for the creators.
Netflix has not officially confirmed the acquisition yet. The company had also previously attempted to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, but the deal did not materialize, and the studio was eventually purchased by Paramount.
Ben Affleck reportedly founded InterPositive quietly with investment support from RedBird Capital Partners. After developing the technology for about two years, he began making major investments into the project in 2025.
