The Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Jean-Guy K. Afrika, held discussions with Qatar’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Mansoor Ali Al-Hajri, focusing on strengthening existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting took place on March 3, 2026, according to a statement shared on RDB’s official X platform.
RDB indicated that the two officials reviewed the current state of cooperation between Rwanda and Qatar and explored new opportunities to expand investment and economic partnerships for mutual benefit.
Ambassador Mansour Ali Fahd Al Shahwani has represented Qatar in Rwanda since the beginning of this year. On January 14, 2026, he presented his letters of credence to President Paul Kagame, formally accrediting him as Qatar’s envoy. He succeeded Misfer bin Faisal Al-Shahwani, who passed away on July 19, 2024.
Qatar’s embassy in Rwanda has been operational since 2021, marking five years of diplomatic presence in the country.
Rwanda and Qatar maintain strong bilateral ties anchored in trade, investment, and aviation partnerships. Notably, Qatar Airways holds a 60 percent stake in the Bugesera International Airport project and shares ownership in RwandAir.
The partnership also emphasizes development cooperation, security, and tourism promotion. The two countries have further strengthened relations by facilitating visa-free travel for their citizens.
The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and President Kagame continue to consolidate this friendship through reciprocal visits and high-level engagements.
Rwanda and Qatar remain committed to deepening their cooperation by creating an enabling environment for investors and collaborating across various sectors of development.
