Soldiers and officers from the Special Operations Force (SOF) of the Rwanda Defence Force have completed a 22-week basic counterterrorism training program aimed at strengthening their operational capabilities.
The training concluded on Friday at the Rwanda Military Academy Gako in Bugesera District. The graduation ceremony was attended by senior officers from the Rwanda Defence Force.
The event was presided over by the Commander of the Rwanda Land Forces, Vincent Nyakarundi, who represented the Chief of Defence Staff.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the training was designed to enhance the operational readiness of SOF personnel by equipping them with advanced skills to address emerging security threats.
The program focused on strengthening rapid response capabilities, counterterrorism operations, and tactics for rescuing hostages held by terrorist groups.
During the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Nyakarundi commended the instructors for their dedication and professionalism in delivering high-quality training that strengthens the effectiveness of Rwanda’s armed forces.
He also congratulated the soldiers who completed the program for their discipline and commitment, encouraging them to apply the skills they acquired in future missions and operations.
The Special Operations Force is a key unit within the RDF tasked with handling complex and high-risk security operations both within Rwanda and in international peacekeeping missions.
