Russia launched a large-scale drone attack against Ukraine during the night of April 4–5, deploying nearly 100 unmanned aerial vehicles in strikes across several regions of the country.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces used 93 drones in the attack, including around 60 Shahed-type drones.
Ukrainian air defence systems managed to intercept or jam 76 of the drones as they flew over the northern, southern and eastern parts of the country.
Despite the interceptions, Ukrainian authorities reported that 17 attack drones successfully struck targets in 10 different locations. Debris from drones that were shot down also fell in three separate areas.
Officials said that as of the morning hours, the assault was still ongoing, with several Russian drones remaining in Ukrainian airspace.
Earlier during the same night, Russian forces also carried out strikes on the port city of Odesa. The attack caused fires, extensive damage and partially destroyed the façade of a residential building.
Emergency services evacuated about 20 residents from the affected building, while casualties were also reported.
The latest attack comes as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues with frequent drone and missile strikes targeting infrastructure and urban areas across the country.
