Report: Russia May Be Sharing Intelligence With Iran in Middle East Conflict

U.S. intelligence officials believe Russia may be providing Iran with intelligence to support attacks on American military installations in the Middle East, according to a report by The Washington Post.

The newspaper cited three U.S. officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, saying that since February 28, 2026, Moscow has shared information about the locations of U.S. warships and military aircraft in the region.

According to the officials, Iran has limited satellite capabilities, prompting Russia to rely on its own satellite systems to provide imagery showing the positions of American bases and strategic facilities.

Recent Iranian strikes have targeted high-value U.S. military assets, including advanced radar systems used for early warning against missile attacks. Some of these systems were reportedly severely damaged, prompting military analysts to suggest the attacks likely relied on accurate intelligence.

The allegations come after a Shahed drone strike carried out by Iran on March 1 hit a U.S. military base in Kuwait, killing six American soldiers and injuring several others.

Iran has also launched attacks against U.S. facilities and allied bases across the region, including sites in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain.

While U.S. officials say American forces continue to strike Iranian military infrastructure, analysts warn that the reported intelligence cooperation between Russia and Iran could significantly increase the scale and effectiveness of Iranian operations.

Russia and Iran signed a military cooperation agreement in January 2025. Iran has previously supplied Russia with Shahed drones widely used in the war in Ukraine, and analysts believe Moscow may now be returning the support through intelligence sharing, even though it has not officially entered the conflict.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has offered to send specialists to the Middle East to help counter Shahed drones, noting that its forces have gained extensive experience defending against them using relatively low-cost systems compared to those deployed by the United States.
