The Ministry of Defence of Rwanda together with the Rwanda Defence Force hosted Defence Attachés accredited to Rwanda for a high-level security briefing held at the RDF Headquarters in Kimihurura, Kigali.

During the session, participants were briefed on Rwanda’s current security situation, regional stability, and the role played by the Rwanda Defence Force in international peacekeeping missions under the United Nations as well as other multinational military cooperation frameworks.

In his address to the participants, Brigadier General Patrick Karuretwa, Director General for International Military Cooperation at the Ministry of Defence, emphasized that such regular engagements provide an important platform for constructive dialogue on security matters at both regional and global levels.

“These meetings are particularly important at a time when the world is facing complex security challenges,” he said. “Across the globe, conflicts are increasing, international cooperation is being tested, and the rules governing relations between states are under unprecedented pressure. In such circumstances, strong and constructive partnerships become even more essential for our collective security.”

Following the presentations and discussions, the Dean of the Defence Attachés in Rwanda, Brigadier General Mohamed Mirghani Yousif Mohamed, who represents the Sudan in Rwanda, commended the organizers for the informative briefing.

“We appreciate the opportunity you gave us to understand the current security situation both within the country and beyond its borders,” he said, adding that Rwanda remains a country characterized by stability and security, which is worthy of recognition.

The event brought together Defence Attachés representing 36 countries and international organizations including Angola, Brazil, Botswana, China, Denmark, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Luxembourg, Morocco, Namibia, Poland, Qatar, South Korea, Russia, Senegal, Sudan, Sweden, Tanzania, Türkiye, Uganda, Netherlands, United Kingdom, United States and Zimbabwe.
