The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) has revised fuel prices and public transport fares following changes in global fuel market trends.

According to a communiqué released on April 3, the new maximum retail prices for petroleum products took effect on April 4, 2026 at 6:00 a.m.

Under the revised pricing, gasoline (petrol) will not exceed 2,303 Rwandan francs per litre, while diesel will not exceed 2,205 Rwandan francs per litre.

RURA explained that the adjustments reflect prevailing international market trends as well as government measures aimed at reducing the impact of global price fluctuations on consumers.

Due to the changes in fuel prices and other operational costs, public transport fares have also been revised. In the City of Kigali, the base fare has been set at 59.28 Rwandan francs per passenger per kilometre, while intercity transport fares have been set at 41.58 Rwandan francs per passenger per kilometre.

The new transport tariffs will take effect on April 6, 2026, with detailed fares for each route to be made available on the RURA website.

RURA also encouraged the public to plan their travel efficiently, use public transport where possible and avoid unnecessary trips in order to reduce fuel consumption.

The communiqué was signed in Kigali by the Director General of RURA, Rugigana Evariste.
