Rwanda’s national football team, Amavubi, won the FIFA Series 2026 Group A trophy after defeating Estonia national football team 2–0 in the final played at the packed Amahoro Stadium on Monday night, March 30, 2026. The match was attended by Paul Kagame.

The historic match marked the first time Rwanda’s senior national team faced a European side. Both teams started strongly, but Amavubi gradually took control of the game, creating chances mainly from the left flank.

In the 30th minute, Abeddy Biramahire opened the scoring after receiving a precise pass from Leroy-Jacques Mickels, sending the home crowd into celebration as Rwanda went into halftime leading 1–0.

Early in the second half, Amavubi continued to press forward. In the 51st minute, Mickels struck a powerful shot that beat Estonian goalkeeper Kaur Kivila to double Rwanda’s lead and put the hosts firmly in control of the match.

Head coach Stephen Constantine later introduced substitutes including Hakim Sahabo, Thierry Manzi, Byiringiro Lague and Gilbert Mugisha to strengthen the team and protect the lead.

Although Estonia attempted to push forward in the closing minutes, Rwanda’s defense remained solid, securing a 2–0 victory and the FIFA Series title in the country’s first time hosting the tournament.

The trophy marks Amavubi’s first major title in 25 years, since winning the COMESA Cup in 2001.

After the match, a medal ceremony was held before Rwanda lifted the trophy. Mickels was also named the best player of the FIFA Series 2026 after an outstanding performance, scoring two goals in the two matches Rwanda played.

Earlier in the day, Kenya national football team secured third place in Group A after defeating Grenada national football team 3–0.
