The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced that several oil tankers currently sailing empty are heading to the US to load gasoline and gas that will later be exported to different parts of the world.
Trump made the remarks in a message posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, on April 11, 2026. In the post, he said many tankers from various parts of the world are traveling to the United States without cargo so they can be filled with petroleum products.
“There are a large number of oil tankers, currently empty, coming from different parts of the world to the United States so they can be loaded with gasoline and petroleum products to be shipped to various destinations,” Trump said.
His statement came shortly after senior officials from the United States and Iran met in Islamabad, Pakistan, for mediation talks aimed at ending a conflict that has lasted for more than a month.
Earlier this week, Trump also stated that Iran should not impose fees or taxes on oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route that has remained closed since the conflict between the two countries began in February 2026.
Since the war involving the United States and Israel against Iran began, Tehran decided to shut down the Strait of Hormuz, causing global oil prices to rise sharply.
