The head of the Anglican Church worldwide, Sarah Mullally, has expressed support for Pope Léon XIV in efforts to promote peace around the world.

The Archbishop of Canterbury and global leader of the Anglican Communion said she plans to visit Rome, where she will hold talks with Pope Léon XIV and join him in prayer.

“I join my brother in Christ, Pope Léon XIV, in his commitment to the struggle for peace,” Mullally said. “I reflect on his call for us to pay attention to the suffering of the world and to look to our crucified Lord, Jesus Christ, the image of the invisible God in whom every person was created. In Him we see that we are all children of one parent and members of one family.”

Pope Léon XIV has recently condemned the war launched by the United States against Iran on February 28, carried out through airstrikes in several parts of the country that reportedly killed many people, including senior Iranian officials.

The Pope stated that he would not be intimidated by the U.S. administration, which criticized him shortly after he spoke out against the war in Iran.

Mullally emphasized that prayer is not an escape from problems but rather a way of turning to God while confronting evil.

“As Christians, we are called to stand with those who suffer and show them compassion and love,” she said. “Christ’s sacrifice, giving his life so that others may live, reminds us that the commandment to love God with all our heart is just as important as loving our neighbor who is in distress, displaced, living in fear, or deprived of peace.”

She also urged Anglicans in the United Kingdom and across the world to join Pope Léon XIV in advocating for an end to wars and condemning injustice.

“In times marked by hatred, division, and violence, we must remain faithful to the call to pursue peace, sow hope, work for reconciliation, and become messengers of God’s peace,” she said.
