Arsenal F.C. have booked their place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League after eliminating Sporting CP with a narrow 1–0 aggregate victory in the quarter-finals.

The result marks a historic moment for the North London club, as it is the first time they have reached consecutive semi-finals in Europe’s top club competition.

Managed by Mikel Arteta, Arsenal will now face Spanish giants Atlético Madrid in the last four as they continue their quest to win their first Champions League title.

Semi-final schedule confirmed

The first leg of the semi-final will take place in Madrid on April 29, while the second leg will be played in London on May 5.

Arsenal already faced Atlético earlier this season during the league phase of the competition, where the English side secured a convincing 4–0 victory.

Strong European run

Arsenal’s route to the semi-finals has been impressive. The club finished top of the Champions League league phase with a perfect record, including notable victories over Bayern Munich and Atlético Madrid.

They then defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3–1 on aggregate in the Round of 16 before edging past Sporting in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid reached the semi-finals after eliminating FC Barcelona 3–2 on aggregate. Coached by Diego Simeone, the Spanish club is also chasing its first Champions League trophy after losing two previous finals.

Other semi-final clash

The other semi-final will see defending European champions Paris Saint-Germain F.C. face German powerhouse Bayern Munich in what promises to be another thrilling tie.

With four of Europe’s top teams remaining, the race to lift the Champions League trophy is entering its decisive stage.
