A fire broke out at a facility belonging to Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD in Shenzhen on April 14, 2026, affecting a section used for parking vehicles and inspecting those with reported issues.

According to the company, the fire started in an area where vehicles that had already undergone testing or had been scrapped were parked. The affected section is located within Shenzhen’s industrial zone.

BYD confirmed that no casualties were reported as a result of the incident. However, the company did not disclose the financial value of the damage caused by the blaze.

Reports indicate that firefighters quickly responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire shortly after it broke out. The exact cause of the incident has not yet been determined.

Following the incident, BYD’s shares dropped by approximately 0.6%, reflecting immediate market reaction to the news.

Experts note that fires at factories producing electric vehicles can have different consequences compared to those involving traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. Electric vehicles are generally considered less prone to catching fire quickly, and in many cases, the flames can be easier to control once emergency teams respond.
