Officials from the foreign ministries of Rwanda and Uganda met in Kampala for the 12th session of the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC), agreeing to continue strengthening the brotherly relations between the two countries.

The meeting is taking place at Mestil Hotel. Rwanda’s delegation is led by Gisa Teta, Director General in charge of African Cooperation, while Uganda’s delegation is headed by Richard Kabonero, Director for Regional Cooperation.

Both sides emphasized the need to boost cooperation in several sectors, including defense, trade, infrastructure, immigration services and capacity building for citizens.

Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the two countries agreed to address existing trade barriers and strengthen collaboration in agriculture, industry, construction and infrastructure development.

The ministry said the 2026 JPC meeting demonstrated the strong brotherly ties and political commitment shared between the two nations.

Relations between Rwanda and Uganda have remained stable for some time, largely built on cooperation in key sectors such as security and trade.
